Settling In
2007: The Travers 138th Running, Saratoga
Surely, no one needs to teach thoroughbreds to run. But, they do need to learn how to start. The 2007 poster artwork, “Settling In,” highlights the most important six feet (two meters) on the racetrack; the starting gate. Under the watchful eyes of stewards and starters every racehorse must learn how to enter and leave the tight green box before they can race. Young and veteran horses alike are repeatedly brought to the gate and trained not to fear its confinement or sounds. With such powerful animals in such small spaces many things can and do happen. It can be a dangerous place where a wise jockey waits for his mount to ... settle in.
